Lockheed
Martin
Lockheed
Martin Corporation, an advanced
technology company, was formed
in March 1995 with the merger
of two of the world's premier
technology companies, Lockheed
Corporation and Martin Marietta
Corporation.
Since
the first Shuttle flight in
1981, Lockheed Martin has supplied
NASA with the external tank
that feeds liquid propellant
to the orbiter's three main
engines. We manage all of NASA's
data collection, telemetry,
and communication operations
that support human space flight
activities and developed many
of the control centers, like
the Mission Control Center at
Johnson Space Center, used in
shuttle operations. Lockheed
Martin made the reinforced carbon
carbon (RCC) material that protects
the orbiter's nose section,
wing leading edges and chin
panel against temperatures approaching
3,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Additionally
Lockheed Martin provides engineering,
scientific, test, and astronaut
training services in support
of each shuttle mission.
Lockheed Martin has a long
history of support to NASA's
Space Shuttle Program. We look
forward to supporting NASA in
a long and productive human
space flight program.
